about

Manor Crescent is a collection of songs inspired by isolation, introspection, and observations during 2020. I’m hesitant to call it a covid album, because the themes and topics discussed over the course of the album, while exacerbated by the lockdown, exist outside of the parameters of the lockdowns.

After finishing Royale for the Dogs I started to grow tired and frustrated with working within the parameters of a concept album. Instead of coming up with an abstract theme, I set out to write a collection of songs that can stand on their own, are approachable, and make sense within the context of the entire work. No more 6-7 minute long odysseys, no more vague lyrics about dreams, no more meaningless personification. I wanted to write relatable music while also staying true to my artistic voice.

With extra time stuck inside my tiny apartment, I began to ruminate and reflect on memories, and observe behaviors of my past and current self. The result is a collection of songs that all have a sense of urgency and need for personal change, but are indecisive or unsure about how to make that change. This sentiment is most evident in some of the more experimental songs like Left Feet, Minimalist, Plume, and Pops where I began implementing tape loops and modified found sounds. In a sense, this album captures a frustrated and confused state of mind at a stagnant time in my life.

Before I end here I would like to thank a few people. Thank you to everyone who has listened to my music, thank you to cmntx for supporting the creation of this album, and thank you to my bandmates Steven McArdle and Nathan Giordano for your hard work writing and recording parts of this album.
